Jakg,

3500+ has default 2.2Ghz.Your CPu has as well 2.2Ghz but rated at 3700+ because you have 1MB L2 cache.

3200+ which is mine CPU runs at default 2Ghz.
I get 30 FPS +-3FPS when there is FULL grid of 32 players. Its almost at the limit where the gameplay is smooth so I guess why now there are a lot of crashes at T1 because with slower CPU it must be a pain.

I have 7900GT 8xAA+16AF and no matter if I change resolution the FPS is still same.I get same FPS testing with 6600 running at 400/800Mhz and 2xAA+16AF.

I think people dont compare here apples to apples as some mean full grid like 23 players some more.

Also LFS is not anymore low PC friendly as it was if you play on servers with more then 25drivers.LFS is now heavy CPU limited game.

Hi,

just few points. You need at least single 8800GTX not sure if SoftTH works with SLI config thought.

Also I dont see your point in quad core CPU.Its uselless for most of the games. Some of them even cant use properly 2 core CPUs!!!.LFS cant untilise multicore CPUs as well.

Be aware that overclocking quad core Intel C2D CPU is very hard. The quadcore from Intel its not native quadcore but 2 silicon of dual core CPU on one chip.Between these 2 silicon is running FSB which is hard to overclock and I know just 2 motherboard(DFI ICFX3200 ,eVGA 122-CK-NF68 - rev T1 and newever) which can do that but no miracles as with usual C2D 2 core CPUs.

But with the etxreme version of Quadcore CPU you have another option which is raising the multiplier so the FSB remain the same and then its only up to the chip limitation if you will get to 3.2Ghz.

I have an AMD X2 3600. Fast enough or a bottleneck?

This CPU is slight bottleneck for this card but really online a slight.
X2 3600 is mostly bottleneck for LFS itselfs as its heavy CPU intensive game. One of the most on the market.

Your CPU will be in LFS fast as my A64 3500+ which is single core running at 2.0Ghz.LFS cant utilize multicore CPUs.

I dont know if this might help:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1661

This is so ridiculous.LFS run fine under XP and Vista makes so many problems.Of course Microsoft would blame as always someone else rather then looking ino their lines.Arghhh....

And do you know why we have so nice new sound system in Vista?
Because of the fu*** DRM.Vista controles 30 times in a second! if something not going around this system. It takes resources and makes problems.

Sorry guys.I know its offtopic but I couldnt helpmyself.Call it propaganda or whatsoever but I recently experienced some unbeliveable thing.Legal Vista refused to install on my mates motherboard.Guess what he got an Microsoft helpline...

I am certain 8800 GTS will handle mid-max details only up to 1280*1024 on Crysis so this card is really not so overkill for close future and your current 19" monitor.

Dont know what make so cool on 680SLi motherboards but the 650SLi are much cheaper and have still very good overclocking optential and uspporting 1333Mhz FSB.Only what they luck is EPP feature and 2x 16xPCIE-E bus. SLI/Crosfire is uselles unless you playt at least like 1920*1080 resolution, also SLI/Crosfire doesnt work on all games. Its waste of money in my eyes unless are are very, very rich and doesnt care about money.

DDR3 memory/DDR3 motherboard are out of the question because the DDR3 memory are so expensive.

I would buy some Gigabyte DS3 which support 1333Mhz FSB or some motherboard with 650SLI chipset.

for 125GBP you should be able to buy E6750 which will be the 2nd fastest 2-core CPU on the market.Thats not so good ? I would say its great unless you count it Quad core :-)

Ok,
I did a mistake:doh:.Sorry I am laying from Thursday in my bed with some cold and high temps so sorry for a small confusion above with FSB1333 support.

Thats for DS3 motherboard. I would say quite a lottery if you buy in oline shop with that version you will end :-( :

Rev. 1.0: FSB 1066MHz, one system fan header, ALC883 (Vista Basic Logo)
Rev. 1.3: FSB 1333MHz, one system fan header, ALC883 - new revision
Rev. 2.0: FSB 1066MHz, three system fan headers, ALC888 (Vista Premium Logo)
Rev. 3.3: FSB 1333MHz, three system fan headers, ALC888 - new revision

Gigabyte DS3 unfortunately doesnt support 1333Mhz FSB while the one I mentioned above YES.
Anyway that Gigabyte motherboard has very good reputation.

There will be pretty a lot of good deals for Intel CPU at the ned of the July or already around 22nd July.I would make then the decision about the CPU and motherboard so there will be any problem with FSB incompability.

Jakg,
when I always someone recomend hardware I think more about price/performance ratio and stability. If we would start talking about overclocking then I would recomend something else

Questions are.Is this more just a gaming machine or regular "home office" on which you play sometimes games? You dont need to overclock any A64 X2 or C2D processors for your daily work. Its useless regarding performance,it consumes more power, stress more components...etc.You know it pretty well

Hi Taylor,

CPU:
I said it on the other thread we discussed your PC.
If you really dont hurry wait till end of June as on the 22nd Intel will announce new C2D processors and also reduce prices again.

E6550 should cost around 100GBP I guess when I compare the USD/GBP prices now and what should cost the new C2D processors.E6550 will have almost same performance as E6600.There is lack of 66Mhz in CPU clock but higher FSB over the E6600.

Also some latest batches of C2D processors are not so good overclokcers.I read that on my PC enthuasist forums and my mate confirmed that unfortunately with his E6320.He had bad luck and it didnt want to go higher then 2.4ghz :-(.

Graphic:
Get a 8800GTS dont even think about 8600GTS if you want to play with some nice details upcoming DX10 games.8600GTS is realy disaster of performance especially with 128bit memory interface.

Mobo:
Get this one and you saved for your processor 15-55GBP against your other choices above.

Good for overclocking, nice price and good features.I have very good experiences with this company over last few years.I mostly put ASUS or MSI motherboards in the systems.

600W PSU is enough but dont be fooled by SLI-Certified.Its just a sticker and doesnt proove anything.Company usually buy this "cerification" for some ammount of money from NVIDIA.

2GB DDR2 is more then enough.

LFS is very heavily CPU intensive game so saying you run other plication if doesnt proove anything unless they are very CPU intensive as well. Since Patch X and running on track with like 25-32 players make LFs even more CPU intensive game.

What is your CPU temp while playing LFS(temp at CPU load)?

Did you install recently any new software in your PC?
What about some spyware running in background or some unnoticed trojans.Did you checked your system in last few days for that.

Also be aware that LFS doesnt like at all to be running with some P2P programs in background.

sorry but I am not suprized you get these problems.
Its due to you grahpci card cant cope with so many cars on track.

Patch X introduced 32 driving players and 47 players on the server as total. If there is so many cars you will get easily FPS drop on your graphic card.

if you mean lag on track change in game menu then that it is pretty normall.Especially it happend with slower HDD.

Also guys.Whats your graphic card memory(please exclude the one used from system memory).
If its 64MB or less this is not enough for hires textures and this cause the freeze/lag or whatever way you will call it.

Quote from TAYLOR-MANIA :
I will surely upgrade the CPU then. As Devil 007 suggested, it will probably be the C2D E6550. What do you say?

I think for the money it will be really good option.
Quote :
Now due to getting a new CPU, i will probably have to go with the 8800 GTS 320MB. Will this card and the E6550 work well together? You think it could run DX9 games with maximum settings without too many hiccups?

It will all DX9 games with full details but it depend for what resolution you aiming. If its for 1600*1200 then it might have a "slight" problem due to low memory size.If its over 1600*1200 you need definately 8800GTS 640MB.
Quote :
Also, Devil 007, you mentioned the power supply...
Now i know I'm gonna be requiring a better one, and i am considering BFG's 650W. Will 650W suffice?

I would look for some better brand then BFG (Seasonic, enermax, tagan) but still the BFG is much better choise then the noname or very exotic brands which build PSU from crap components.

650W is more than enough!Well you would not stress the PSU a lot because it would not run at max power usuage so it mean that the PSU fän will run also slower which produce less noise.

TAYLOR-MANIA,

there will be new price drop on Intel and AMD processors again. This year the CPU drop was really huge and I never saw such a before in my long history.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=25689

I would buy then C2D E6550,new motherboard and new memory but I guess you have already DDR-533.Also be aware if you have now something like 400W powersupply this is not enough for 8800 cards. You might have problems with stability and performance lost.

Why I am suggesting it?
As I mentioned LFS is heavily CPU limited game and to play it with full details and like 4XAA+16AF at 1280*1024 is enough even 6600GT which is nowdays kidna slow graphic card.Of course 8800GTS against X600 is huge difference and your FPS would go definately higher and you could use like 8-16xAA+16AF but you would have still perfomance(FPS) like me with 7900GT(6600GT).

If you are buying 8800GTs you need to pair it with good CPU so it will run up to its potential and not to holding it back.I know you will be not only playing LFS but everybody who know someting about PC would tell you the same. You must always build the system balanced otherwise it doesnt make much sense. Its like putting V8 into a Trabant...I hope yopu know what I mean

Just my few cents on this topic.
You dont need to change the CPU but it would make sense...

P.S: here is the link how your CPU stand now.dont be depressed

Quote from TAYLOR-MANIA :So, i am looking for a major upgrade for my system.
I am currently running an ATi X600 ("LOL" i know, very old & slow) which runs LFS and other games okay, but it really is time for some new components.
I want the BFG 8800 GTS OC 640MB...does anyone own this card or maybe the 320MB version?
If so, is there any chance you could post a screenshot of LFS in-game?
That way, i can see just how much better LFS can look when compared to what i have now.
Also, should i wait for ATi's DX10 cards to see how performance/price compare?
Replies appreciated.

Hi,
LFS is extremly CPU limited.I have 7900GT and it can run LFS at 1280*1024,8xAA,16AF,max LFS details, custom highres textures the follwing way:

150-350FPS in hotlaping mode
30-180FPS in multiplayer. Those 30 FPS if I am last on the grid of 32 pole.

I can even play with 16xAA with really very small FPS hit.

The above FPS doesnt change at all whenever I change the resolution even to 640*480 with the settings above. It raise only if I overclock my CPU.When I overclock my GPU by 100Mhz no change with FPS again.

in demo times before S1 when there was just few servers we had either moderators constantly kicking or banning or CRC servers. It was so much fun.I spend times raciing Vykos,Macest and other top guys and learned so much.

This has however changed a lot.The percantage of very clean drivers is now very minimal.I dont post things like Thill because its useless in this forum. It always end flaming to guy who started such a thread claming he must be guilty as well if he posting such a things.Come on...

I got several times rammed, hammerd by other on servers and these guys just dont care how they really drive. Its really confusing ...I am rather trying to stay at the end of the pack but then suddenly some idiot hit you from back.So confusing sometimes and even more when it happend several times in a row.As I said I always rather stay back at the pack after start because I know its more easily to gain during few laps some positions.

Not everybody have time and to spend racing in leagues.
Casual LFS online racing its not what it have been.Really sad

Well I saw several times such a kart guy on the Bug test servers.
He was trying to defend his bad driving that he do karting so you have to live with that how he drivers and that he has no intenet to change himself because he does karting:doh:

Hopefully not same idiot spamming several servers lately.
Some guys have really funny points to defeat their bad driving.

It will do like 150-350 FPS hotlaping alone in Single player with full LFS details 4xAA+16AF.

And around 40-180FPS online.Depend on number of cars around and track.
Also inhcluding 4xAA+16AF.

Be aware that LFS doesnt gain anything from the 2nd CPU core and the correct spec of this CPU is 2.13Ghz.

Quote from Aegilops :Even though there's such a theoretical range of combinations to get to a PB on (every car x every track) it seems I'm not alone in wanting something fresh and new. What have been the macro changes to the game of late? When patch S came out we got the improved physics and the BF1. We got the improved sounds in V/W, and X has brought pre-load clutchpack and false starts. Sure, there have been a squillion other improvements but not in any area that broadly affects the user experience - and these changes span a development time of 14 months (not including the dev time for patch S).

We're all going crazy for something fresh and new, and it seems to me that we could be easily appeased with new content, and so we'd STFU to allow Scawen to work on the core game engine (collisions, engine damage, weather...). I've previously thought that user-contributed material would be a great way to go, but only if:
  • Quality was controlled by a central authority (e.g. Scavier), to whom all content would have to be submitted, and may go through several iterations for testing, suitability to the game, playability etc. There would probably be a closed beta-testing group for this (beta testing an alpha product? You know what I mean....)
  • Downloading content was integrated into the game engine, e.g. with the patch auto-updating. No hunting for patches, no worrying about new content integrity.
  • Strict versioning control was implemented. E.g. think about the two Brands Hatch in GPL. Cosmetic differences would not be the end of the world (e.g. the SO City graphical updates) but any layout changes would be crucial to ensure every driver is using the exact same circuit. I can imagine LFS having all sorts of hideous sync errors as well if this wasn't managed properly (e.g. your version of Brands has incorrect elevation, so my car's reported position appears to be tunnelling through the solid track to you....)
  • There was an agreed and committed release schedule. It could be as meagre as one car every six months, and one track per year. Oversaturation would be unhealthy and unnecessary. But having something - anything - we could count on to look forward to with a reasonable degree of certainty would be such a refreshing change
  • Certainly there would be a number of keen amateurs who would jump in and have a go at submitting content. But I suspect that there are a few genuinely talented members of the community who excel and thrive at producing the desired content, and most of the hard work would come from them. So I don't think inferior quality would be an issue so long as the QA process was built in, and well documented and understood. Also the required quality would soon become evident with comparison to the stock cars and tracks plus any newly accepted material. I.e. don't even bother submitting content until it's of the same level as Blackwood
  • This could allow LFS to further develop into its own niche, which right now feels like track-day specials and somewhat obscure regional circuits. So new cars like the DP1 would fit right in. I seriously doubt whether we would ever see our Ferraris and Porsches shipping with the stock game (although anything could happen over time, particularly if LFS' popularity continues to grow).
  • There remains a big question about licensing. Clearly the devs can't blatantly ignore licensing issues, but possibly one workaround would be to implement various 'repositories' of content. There could be three: "core" (all the content we know and love right now), "official" which would contain community addons approved by the devs (e.g. a community created and approved fantasy track, where there are no license issues, or officially blessed ones like the DP1), and the "community" repository which is a link to only a single content source where community members can QA and approve content for download. This would have a big fat disclaimer like 'any content downloaded form the community repository is not endorsed by Scavier etc etc' but would allow us to develop things like our own Nordschleife, or the GT3RSR. Crucially, QA control, download management, versioning etc as listed above would have to be applied fiercely to this community repository as otherwise we'd be straight in to rFactor territory. Some lucky volunteer would have to step up and 'be' that community repository host, and we'd also have to appoint a QA committee to perform those tasks, as we could hardly ask Eric to adjudicate whether my copy of the Karrussel was up to the game's high standards.
If I felt I had even one iota of success in persuading Scavier to adopt this, I'd start talking about the positive reasons for doing so - that the community goodwill and patience is a finite resource and that this would be a really cheap and empowering way of further reinforcing our borderline-obsessive feelings about LFS, and that you can't ignore a certain degree of exasperation even among the die-hards that we never know what we're going to get, and when we get it, it doesn't materially affect the game we love so much. I think the model I've described would work, but who am I kidding? I can't see it ever being adopted so I'll just sit back and wait for improved GTR textures (that we can already download) and improved AI (that I don't need), and keep driving GTR at AS National along with the 5,000 others (in broad daylight).
